About the Game
Pokémon Sword and Shield launched on November 15, 2019, marking the series' first mainline entry on Nintendo Switch. Set in the UK-inspired Galar region, players explore cities, countryside, and the expansive Wild Area while challenging Gym Leaders and the Champion.
The games introduce Dynamax and Gigantamax phenomena, allowing Pokémon to grow massive in size during battles. The Wild Area offers a semi-open world experience with weather-dependent Pokémon spawns and Max Raid Battles against powerful Dynamax Pokémon.
With the introduction of 89 new Pokémon and unique Galarian regional forms, Sword and Shield delivered a fresh experience while laying the groundwork for the open-world design later seen in Scarlet and Violet.
