Paradox Pokémon (Japanese: パラドックスポケモン Paradox Pokémon) are a special group of Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that resemble both ancient and futuristic relatives of existing species. These mysterious creatures were brought to the present through time distortions in Area Zero, the great crater at the center of Paldea. They are divided into two categories: Ancient Pokémon from the distant past (Scarlet) and Future Pokémon from a distant future (Violet).

Ancient Paradox Pokémon are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet and feature prehistoric designs with primal, savage appearances. They all share the signature ability Protosynthesis, which boosts their highest stat in harsh sunlight or when holding a Booster Energy. Examples include Great Tusk (ancient Donphan), Scream Tail (ancient Jigglypuff), and the legendary Koraidon (ancient motorcycle Pokémon).

Future Paradox Pokémon are exclusive to Pokémon Violet and showcase sleek, mechanical, cybernetic designs from a high-tech future. They possess the ability Quark Drive, which functions like Protosynthesis but activates in Electric Terrain instead of sunlight. Notable examples include Iron Treads (future Donphan), Iron Bundle (future Delibird), and the legendary Miraidon (future motorcycle Pokémon).

All Paradox Pokémon have extremely high base stat totals (between 570-590 for regulars, 670 for legendaries), making them competitively viable. They cannot breed, have no evolution stages, and are found exclusively in Area Zero's depths or through special Tera Raid events.
