Temporary powerful transformations during battle
What is Mega Evolution?
Mega Evolution is a temporary transformation introduced in Pokémon X and Y that allows certain Pokémon to achieve a powerful new form during battle. To Mega Evolve, a Pokémon must hold its corresponding Mega Stone and the trainer must have a Key Stone. This bond-powered transformation dramatically boosts the Pokémon's stats, may change its type and ability, and gives it a striking new appearance.
Unlike regular evolution, Mega Evolution is not permanent—the Pokémon returns to its normal form after battle ends. Only one Pokémon per team can Mega Evolve per battle, making the choice of when and which Pokémon to Mega Evolve a crucial strategic decision. Some Pokémon, like Charizard and Mewtwo, even have two different Mega Evolution forms (X and Y versions) with distinct stats and typings.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to introduce 8 brand new Mega Evolutions, including fan favorites like Mega Raichu, Mega Dragonite, and the Kalos starters.
